Work

Oil on paper, laid on canvas

This exceptionally large oil sketch on paper can be situated in the surroundings of Jan Fyt and his pupil Pieter Boel. Hunting scenes and -booty were quit popular in the Southern Netherlands in the 17th century. Our painting is a study, probably made for a very large project that was then exhibited in a hunting castle, -lodge or huntingroom. The provenance of the painting makes one dream; it is not unlikely that the painter Henri Toulouse-Lautrec saw or even admired our work on several occasions because he liked staying in the family-castle of Malromé on many occasions (also his father was known to be a notorious hunter).
