The corpse of Christ can be seen in front of the cross against a dark background. Christ is wearing a white cloth with and has a clearly visible wound on his side, from which blood can bee seen dripping down. His eyes are closed and his face is turned towards the ground, his head still bleeding from the crown of thorns.
His emaciated body is held by the apostle John, wearing a bright red robe. The apostle has closed his eyes in grief. In the middle of the scene we can see Mary, with a white cloth and a scarf that extends over her turquoise colored robe embroided with a golden border. She has folded her hand and sadly looks down.
We would like to thank Dr. Maximiliaan Martens for his kind advice.
